Plays for the Young 2024 competition winners announced

Playmarket has announced the winners of this year’s Plays for the Young competition.

Plays for the Young is an annual playwriting competition for scripts written for children and young people. Scripts are grouped into three age-group categories, with a winning script announced for each category:

  • FOR 3-8 YEAR-OLDS: Catriona Tipene and Ryan Cundy for Trees, Bees and Me

  • FOR 8-12 YEAR-OLDS: Andrew Todd for The Time Machine

  • FOR TEENAGERS: Teherenui Koteka for Pane Provocations and Hine Parata-Walker for The Jumpers

  • SHORTLISTED: Dan Bain for The Odyssey (School's Version), Brendon Bennetts and Kathleen Burns for Escape from Haunted House, Bridget Sanders inspired by a story by Dr Maysoon Salama for Aya and the Butterfly, Regan Taylor for The Power of Koro
