PAYPA Creative Residency 2025
PAYPA Creative Residency 2025
Call out for participants
Calling all talented performance artists based in Aotearoa New Zealand! We're looking for experienced creators passionate about developing fresh, exciting ideas for a theatre and/or dance production aimed at young audiences. From Kapa Haka-inspired storytelling, immersive dance, Bunraku puppetry, and all the artistic spaces in between, the PAYPA Creative Residency supports and encourages artists to consider new forms and ideas for this important audience.
About the Creative Residency
The creative residency is a 2.5-day professional development project aimed at artists who have previously led the creation of theatre and/or dance productions. The focus is on developing work for young audiences, and it provides time, space and inspiration to develop ideas through peer-sharing, mentorship and workshops. It takes place from Friday 22 – Sunday 24 August in Tāmaki Makaurau and includes a stipend, meals, accommodation, workshops, artistic support, rehearsal and meeting space. Travel assistance (ex-Auckland) is available if required. Spaces are limited and you must apply to take part.
Eligibility
We want to hear from professional practitioners based in Aotearoa New Zealand with previous experience producing theatre and/or dance performances. If you haven’t had funding to make and tour your production(s) before, then the PAYPA Mentorship Programme might be a better fit.
Applications can come from individuals, collectives or companies, but spaces are limited.
You must be available for the full residency dates to apply.
We encourage a diverse range of artists to make relevant work for young audiences, and welcome expressions of interest. If you have any questions about eligibility, please contact performingartsypa@gmail.com with “Creative Residency 2025” in the subject line.
How to apply
You must register your expression of interest, and you must be available for all residency dates. When you register, we ask you to tell us more about you and your idea. You can do this in writing or upload a video submission. We are looking for bold ideas that are relevant, dynamic, and engage young audiences. Tell us about your idea, why this would be an excellent, relevant work for young audiences, why you want to make work for young people and what development you and the idea might need. You can include supporting material, images or video links.
