Capital E’s Creative Collider Residency 2021

Wellington-based Theatre for Young Audiences (TYA) makers and creators are invited to apply for this professional development programme and ideas lab for 15 selected practitioners.

Capital E’s Creative Collider Residency is a unique and exciting opportunity designed to upskill local arts practitioners and support them to make vibrant and relevant work for young audiences.

Hosted by Capital E’s National Theatre for Children and supported by skilled national and international mentors, Creative Collider Residency focuses on supporting practitioners to create high quality work for children, connecting them to networks and increasing programming for youth audiences.

This four-day three-night intensive session at Waihōanga River Lodge and Retreat focuses on

  • generating innovative creative ideas for young audiences
  • ways to start the creative process including pitching sessions, group brainstorming workshops
  • sector discussions with an aim to build to new collaborations, projects and working relationships

This Wellington region-based residency will be held Friday 17 to Monday 20 September 2021, with accommodation and food covered plus a small stipend for the 15 selected practitioners.

At the end of the residency, three works will be selected to be seed funded and supported by Capital E, through workshops and a small fund, for presentation in the 2023 National Arts Festival for Children.

Applicants must be from the Wellington region.

To apply please submit:

  • a pitch for a conceptual idea for youth audiences – this can be a seed of a concept or a script that is fully fledged. The work cannot have premiered previously
  • a CV of you and your work
  • a one-page cover letter explaining why you want to be involved
