Footnote New Zealand Dance is Aotearoa’s longest-running contemporary dance company.

The story of Footnote is the story of our artform in this country, with almost every notable New Zealand dancer and choreographer for over a generation having worked with Footnote during their careers. Founded by Deirdre Tarrant in 1985, Footnote is an ambitious national arts organisation that is dedicated to extensively touring dance works around Aotearoa and internationally: the company has performed in China, Germany, the UK, Belgium, Switzerland, France, and the United States in the last decade. Footnote is known for creating and commissioning bold new work by New Zealand artists.

Footnote is passionate about creating an environment that supports dancers, choreographers and other artists to advance contemporary dance in Aotearoa New Zealand and provides a safe place for practitioners to take artistic risks.
